The Magic Mandolin Lesson

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

I recently got my youngest son a mandolin lesson. He has never played the mandolin before but I think he really liked the experience and we were both very excited about it. I should admit that I have always pushed him a little harder to play music. I didn’t know if it would happen or not, though. The point is that the whole family plays. My wife is a fiddler, I play the accordion, and my older son plays harmonica and guitar, my daughter - the banjo. I figured if my son took a mandolin lesson he might like it and start practicing. That’s how we could all make music together. But there was a time when my son was not willing to listen to me and he refused to have a mandolin lesson.

Since moving to the lake, our photo collection has been constantly growing as we are adding pictures to it monthly.

Stronger Fingers for Guitar Playing

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

Guitar playing is one of the most popular ways to personally play and enjoy music. The appeal of the guitar is mostly due to its presence in practically all popular and rock music recordings. Furthermore, it is an instrument that is very portable and versatile enough for many kinds of songs and occasions, and is practical as an accompaniment to vocalists or other instruments.

Playing the guitar requires more than the requisite musical ability, dedication and practice. A guitar player’s fingers must be dexterous and agile to allow quick single string or chord changes in rhythm or solo musical performances. Those fingers also need to be tough and strong to be able to press the strings enough during quick changes to produce clean tones.

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

The classical movie has got to be one of the finest “inventions” since the stapler. The classical movie is the one which we got the benefit of when we were kids, when only three television channels and limited viewing opportunities were given reprieve because Saturday afternoons and Sundays—when Dad wasn’t sucked into The Wide World of Sports—held movies from the past, movies featuring the glamour girls and the males gallant that had long since passed out of our existence.

Known about “Charlie Chaplin”

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

At the turn of the century, there were no other actors greater than the comedian king of silent films.  Born in 1889, when the Lumiere brothers invented the ‘motion picture’ in 1895, Chaplin was just an elementary-school hid, struggling to survive harsh poverty in London ghettos.  He left school at 10 and later worked as a mime and roustabout on the British vaudeville circuit, the Fred Karno Company.
