Along with the availability of inexpensive sound recording software and the fact that almost everyone now has access to a computer, internet radio stations mean that almost anyone can make webcasts or podcasts of their own. Of course, it is not just private individuals who are making use of internet radio stations. In reality, the vast majority of internet radio stations are owned by big communications firms as internet versions of their own radio stations. But that is just the beauty of the internet - it levels the playing field. Whether you want to listen to top 40 from Las Angeles, or some kid spinning punk rock in Birmingham, Alabama, chances are that you can find it through an internet radio station.
