Hip Hope Videos

May 21st, 2008

The introduction and rise of hip hop has added to the already eclectic blend of genres in today’s world of popular music. Often controversial, the stars of the musical style have legions of devoted and loyal fans. Hip hop merchandise is a lucrative market, and hip hop videos are everpopular. They include live concerts, video compilations, movies and even workout routines set to hip hop tracks.

Da Hip Hop Witch Project, for example, is a scary but comedic parody of The Blair Witch Project. The plot involves five kids who get lost while looking for the witch, and it stars Eminem, Stacii Jae Johnson and Vanilla Ice. The comedy and drama, Hip Hop 4 Life, is about a young man named Devon, who wants to break into the professional music business. Along the way, we watch as he contends with relationship problems. Q-Nice plays the lead and Michael Bell Sr is Mr. Lincoln, Devon’s father. Fans of hip hop videos will enjoy the story and the music.

A Canadian performer, mostly known for his number one hit single Informer, is Snow. The Canadian scene was slow to start, but made up for lost time largely with the help of Snow. The 1993 video, 12 Inches of Snow, is a collection of his songs, including Informer. Other tracks include Girl, I’ve Been Hurt and Runaway.

Some of today’s biggest stars can be seen in Death Row - Uncut, which is a good example of behind-the-scenes hip hop videos. The emphasis is on gangsta rap. There is live footage of Snoop Doggy Dog, Dr. Dre and Tupac Shakur. You will be treated to these stars giving interviews alongside unrated, previously unreleased videos. This video, be warned, carries a Parental Advisory Explicit Content warning sticker.

From the start, Public Enemy has been a best selling group that has enjoyed mainstream success. Public Enemy - The Enemy Strikes Live contains footage from their concert at the famed Apollo Theatre in New York City. There are also bonus promotional hip hop videos for the songs Hazy Shade of Criminal and By the Time I Get to Phoenix. This video too carries a parental warning label.

Another star-studded video is Hip Hop Story - Tha Movie. It stars DMX, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Tupac Shakur, Master P and Ice Cube. There is live performance footage of them and interviews that include heads of record companies. The video also gives an insight into the aftermath of the deaths of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G.
