Granted, ballads when sung right are very beautiful to hear and can be extremely popular with the audience, but the ballads very slow tempo also makes it much more likely to be forgotten by that same audience the minute you walk off stage. How many times have you seen an audience come out of their seats with thunderous applause after listening to a ballad? To become an American Idol winner, you will need songs that will get the audience moving. In that way you will make a connection with them. An audience that is moving with your song is much more likely to connect with you and remember you, as will the American Idol judges. And, that might be enough to make you an American Idol winner.
