South Dakota Jazz
February 12th, 2008I found a wonderful book for entertainment in South Dakota. Now I’ve never taken any South Dakota vacations but after reading this book I just may have to try one. The book chronicled a jazz musician who was down on his luck and got stranded in Sioux Falls. He had no one to rely on so he had to find employment in the entertainment industry around the city to earn enough to buy a car so he could make it back home. The book talks about all the establishments he went to on his quest. The story was fictional, but the author did his homework and actually visited every entertainment venue he could find in the city. Jazz is not big in Sioux Falls so he only found two places where he could find jazz musicians on a regular basis. He interviewed all of them that he could get to talk and came up with some wonderful behind the scene stories. He also did a wonderful job describing the art that these musicians share with the world. The joints may be seedy, but the booze flows and the crowd enjoys what is described as “some of the best jazz this side of New Orleans.
