The Power of Hindsight

Friday, July 17th, 2009

“Hindsight is 20-20.” This is a common adage that we have all heard at one point or another during our lifetime. I assume that we all believe that it is true, but have we really thought how we can use this reality to our advantage as athletes, trainers, and coaches? I’ll never forget the many pieces of advice that my mentors have given me over the years and how much I wish I would’ve used their experiences to help myself along the way, especially when I was in high school and college. I’ll never forget my high school basketball coach telling me not to get too involved with a serious girlfriend while in high school because he said I would change a lot throughout the years and it would make college much more difficult because of the distance. Of course, as a “know-it-all, things will be different for me” eighteen year old, I didn’t listen even though my coach had been speaking from experience.

Instead, I kept the serious relationship and took on the challenges of managing a long distance arrangement while trying to maintain a high average at a prestigious academic school and playing Division 1 athletics. The result? A painful break-up shortly after college and a lot of lost time that I’ll never get back; time spent at home during many weekends to see her when I could have been having fun with my teammates, becoming a better football player, and or getting more involved on campus. I’m not saying that just because it happens to one person, that it’ll absolutely happen the same way again to the next. I’m merely asserting that there are odds in play in certain situations and most likely, an outcome can be predicted with a high percentage of certainty.

Will you at least consider the “most likely” outcome and make decisions accordingly? I’m not going to tell you that you should or shouldn’t, but at least hear me out and maybe there is something in here that can help you make the most out of your experience.

People Are Stupid.

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

Don’t worry, I’m sure he is pointing at someone behind you.

For the sake of being more politically correct, I should more accurately say that people make bad decisions. Let me give you three scenarios that happen all the time:

Scenario One: Little Johnny is doing poorly on his Spanish exams. He hates Spanish class, but his mom tells him that it will build character. His mom quickly decides that little Johnny will need a tutor to pass the final exam. She goes out and sets him up with a $50 a session tutor that meets with him twice a week, since she doesn’t know Spanish herself. After a few months of tutoring, Little Johnny sits in on the Spanish exam and and gets a 80.

Yaay, a passing grade! Little J quickly decides he never wants to take another Spanish class again, but he did pass when he needed to!

Scenario Two: Our boy little Johnny loves playing sports and exercise. His mother tells Johnny that he has to be active for a healthy life, even though she doesn’t know much about the science and reasoning behind exercise and training programs. She looks around and finds a high quality athlete training center in the area that is packed with kids getting better at a rapid pace!

“Whoa $10-15 a session! No way!” she exclaims.

So, she goes down to the local gym, only $99 for one full year! That’s a way better deal, right? So Johnny’s mom buys him the gym membership and says, “go on over when you want to!”

Little Johnny is excited for the first day of working out at the fancy commercial gym. He gets his athletic clothes on and is all jacked up. He walks in and sees this:

“Hmmmm” Johnny says, “I have no idea where to start! I’m so confused! Why don’t I try squats, I read online that they build serious strength!”

So Johnny goes over to the squat rack, puts on 25’s and performs a few awkward looking deep squats. An old gym veteran comes over and offers some assistance – “Johnny, don’t squat so low, its bad for your knees, it really messed me up when I was younger.”

Not knowing any better, Johnny starts 1/4 squatting and the old gym vet hobbles away. Three weeks later Johnny gets bored of going to the gym. Going 4 days a week quickly becomes 2 days, then 1 day.

After two months, Johnny just stops going and calls it quits.

Scenario Three (Cliff’s Note Version): Little Johnny’s best friend, little Jimmy, also was told by his parents that it is good and healthy to work out. The parents realize that it is not their specialty, so they find that same athlete training center that Little Johnny’s mom found.

After talking to the strength coaches and understanding their philosophy, they sign him up! 3 months later little Jimmy loves training with the groups there, and he feels apart of the something special.

Our original “Hardwork Has a Hot Friend….Victory” Tee Shirts

Oh, and by the way he gets strong as hell! 20 years down the road, little Jimmy still remembers the valuable lessons he learned. He possesses a strong work ethic, drive to succeed, and passion for a healthy lifestyle.

Memories of Michael Jackson: “He did everything to the extreme” — Patti Austin

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Grammy award-singer Patti Austin was invited on Larry King Live along with Michael Jackson’s longtime friends to share and reminisce their friendship with Michael. Patti said that Michael was incredibly shy and has never said a word to her until both were left alone in a room. Patti, as she reads a magazine, Michael turned to her and said to her: “I heard you like to shop.”

Patti was also the first few people who has shared her memories of Michael Jackson, a day after MJ died. She called in the CNN newsroom on the 26th of June, part of her message was: “In a sad but realistic way it’s understandable that his light would go out in what we might see as premature.” Read more at http://pattiaustin.com.

Office Space For Lease Los Angeles
When faced with the challenge of finding office space or a coworking environment in Los Angeles, many small businesses and entrepreneurs find that traditional office buildings and corporate suites do not meet their needs. In Los Angeles’ dynamic, innovative business environment, most young companies are looking for office space that will inspire creativity and collaboration and energize their employees. In addition, these companies often need the latest in technology including wireless networks, laptop docking stations and multimedia conference rooms.

Traditional office buildings with a reception area, cubicles, corner offices and conference rooms can reduce productivity and hurt job satisfaction. This often makes working from home a tempting option, especially for those looking to avoid the notorious Los Angeles traffic. For a growing company with multiple employees, however, working remotely can stifle collaboration and finding space for meetings with clients can be difficult.

As a result many Los Angeles companies now realize the value of replacing cubicles with communal work stations, where employees on the go can drop in and plug in their laptop to squeeze in a couple of hours for work and catch up with colleagues working in the office. In addition, common areas where employees can grab a glass of water or coffee and discuss ideas with each other are becoming increasingly common. Architects are also placing more value on increasing natural light in the office to improve the quality of the work environment.

BLANKSPACES, located at 5405 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles, is a modern, flexible workspace designed for start-ups, entrepreneurs and creative professionals that embodies many of these principles. As a growing number of business executives and architects come to understand the impact that both form and function can have on employee productivity and a company’s success, it is likely that Los Angeles will see more office spaces like this developed in the near future.

The other interesting thing about guitars is how widely their range has been exploited in just about every music genre. Almost every other country and culture features guitars in their music. In the United States you’d be hard pressed to find many bands that don’t use guitars in some way.

Making Fresh Water Ponds With Fish

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Wishing for a tranquil place in the yard, to sit, relax and contemplate the day? It might be time to investigate the possibilities of freshdeck building and ponds7 with fish. These ponds are an easy to make and lovely to look at addition to any home.

Fresh Water Ponds With Fish: Things To Consider

Before running to the backyard to dig, take a moment to evaluate where you want to locate the pond. Does the spot get enough sunlight? Make sure the location is one where lots of runoff water does not accumulate. Fresh deck building and ponds7 with fish need an area that won’t be contaminated by continuous run off water. Is the setting near enough an area where seating can be accommodated? There is no point in placing fresh water ponds with fish in a section of the yard that is inaccessible.

Once the initial setting is decided upon, the next step is to determine what shape the pond will have. There are several types of liners available to place in fresh water ponds with fish. One type is pre-fabricated, the shape is already created. This is made from a durable material, and can be placed right into the ground. Liners that are more flexible can also be used. These are better when a particular design is desired. They are more like a cloth, so it needs to be unrolled and placed in the pond and then held down. Underneath both types, an additional layer of old rugs or newspapers can be added to help support the liner when water is added.

Another consideration when creating fresh water ponds with fish is what type of fish are being considered? If it is a Koi fish, the pond needs to be large enough to allow for these fish. In this type of pond, the Koi needs to have at least a three foot depth and the pond needs to hold at least 900 gallons of water. Fresh deck building and ponds7 with fish can also contain the much smaller and distant cousin of the Koi, the goldfish.

Fresh deck building and ponds7 with fish wouldn’t be complete without plants. Some states have restrictions on specific water plants. These plants are not allowed to be purchased or used in a pond. Make sure to discover which plants are legal in your state. In placing plants into fresh water ponds with fish, make sure they are potted according to the soil needs of the plant, and that a layer of pea gravel is placed on top. This will help prevent the fish from eating the plants roots.

Fresh deck building and ponds7 with fish are a cornerstone in many well landscaped yards; adding a relaxing, calming environment for the homeowners.

    Free TV On PC

    Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Seven decades on, and the TV is still going great guns. Nowadays, it’s no longer a luxury or recreational household item anymore and practically every home has one. The modern edition of the TV set has also covered substantial engineering ground. HDTV and plasma displays are hardly recognizable from the CRTs of the pioneering era of Free PC TV.

The function of TV has also diversified. It has become a key telecommunication medium for everything from politics through sports, news and so forth to entertainment. There’s a whole lot more programming variety available too and viewers are also more selective in the way they watch TV.

Programming can be delivered by on-demand, pay-per-view, conventional broadcast or time-based subscription. Because of the hold that TV has on people in general, TV companies invariably get away with overcharging. There are also different platforms namely cable, satellite, antennae and more recently IPTV.

Given the advancement of the internet infrastructure and performance standards, IPTV looks poised to surpass the other technologies. What used to be a major obstacle in transmission speed is now a thing of the past with broadband internet coupled with the higher speed and power of accompanying electronic processors.

Out of the overall technology advancement, an ingenious kind of free TV on PC has been innovated. Unlike IPTV in general, this strain is actually internet in nature. The TV programming streams are mainly FTA broadcasts over the internet and accessed in the normal manner through PCs.

Why pay when you can watch free satellite TV on PC? If you have the time and know-how, you can definitely watch TV on Computer free. Otherwise, you can still turn to commercial membership service providers and access TV programming on the internet with their proprietary software which enables you to bypass all the fuss.

Millions are already watching Free TV On PC. It’s hard to disregard this form of TV with all its advantages such as PC convenience, thousands of channels, complete genres, no additional hardware or retrofit and so forth. There are many good providers but there are also many scams so research thoroughly before deciding on your pick.
