Art Galleries and Where to Find Them!

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Most people think of art galleries as stuffy places where people have fancy parties with champagne and interesting finger foods. They probably also think of high priced art that most of us mere mortals simply cannot afford to own, even if we had the desire to lavish our hard-earned cash on a piece of art anyway! There are plenty of places out there to buy things that are more affordable, and you can usually find something that you will love to hang in your home, and you won’t have to sell the family silver in order to get it.

Where to Find Local Art Galleries

There are two local art galleries in my local shopping mall. One is a bit more pricy than the other, but both are affordable. Though many don’t think of them in the traditional sense, there are art galleries where you can find great works of art by those who might be less known, but still have a lot of skill and can produce some wonderful pieces of art that would look good in any home or office. In fact, you may find something here that you would like better than anything else, and it won’t cost you a fortune.

Independent art galleries are primarily there to help artists display their paintings and are often full of works from unknown artists looking for that big break! Many of the paintings displayed sell for very low amounts of money, meaning that you can, occasionally, pick up a bargain, particularly if you follow the work of a specific artist and think that his or her work will gain in popularity over time.

You can find more information on art galleries and where to find them here!

The Echo- German Music Award in Berlin 2009

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

On 21st February 2009 the German music award, the Echo, will take place at O2 World in Berlin for the 18th time. Since 1992 the award has been given for 24 categories every year.
As usual, this year there will be a lot of national and international celebrities from the music industry. U2 are going to present their new song “Get on your boots” live! Not only on stage but also in the audience there will be loads of famous people who have been nominated for the “famous” award. One of those will be Lenny Kravitz and Jack Johnson who are both nominated for the “Best international male rock artist”. Or Madonna and Amy Winehouse who are competing for the award in the category “Best international female pop artist”. Now we have to wait to see which of them will finally take the prestigious award home.
The actress and singer Barbara Schöneberger as well as the comedian and presenter Oliver Pocher will present Echo this year.
The German Phono academy organises the show every year and the winner of the Echo is based on the music charts. The best national live act is voted online so everyone can participate. A special panel of judges decides who gets the awards for the life’s work and the special price.

This echo award is for artists representing rock/pop and folk music but every year in autumn there is the classic Echo which is for classic artists only. Since 2001 the Pop- Echo takes place in Berlin every year but the location for the Classic-Echo changes every year.
Tickets are available starting from 49 Euros (standing). Have a look on the official homepage echopop.de to see where you can buy the tickets. There you can also find more nominees in other categories.

If you want to see the Echo and all the celebrities live you should have a look for tickets soon since a lot of people want to see the event. You should also have a look for an Unterkunft Berlin soon. If you are looking for a Hotel Berlin you should hurry up since they are booked out quickly in Berlin. Do not forget that Berlin is a famous destination for tourists! You could also have a look for a Ferienwohnung in Berlin which might be an even cheaper alternative to a hotel. An apartment is also bigger than a hotel room so you and your travel partners have much more space!

Watching Films in London

Monday, April 28th, 2008

People revel in the pictures, so why not look at going to the capital and scout out lots of the shots in the film? London played a part in several astonishingly first rate pictures and for more than 10 decades, has received elite film artists to compose their pictures in. This metropolis is among the world’s best known & memorable film towns. There exist intrinsic venues for movies found in the capital; a handful of of the most famous locations are filmed again and again. A share of the planet’s most prominent movie makers, from past & present, are also Londoners. Well known movies have been based around this metropolis and they commonly get good critical reviews.

This city is considered to be the 3rd most hectic filming location on the planet. After L.A. and of course the big apple, Westminster is the foremost town with over 2200 filming days for 2005. As well as the capital’s movies there is also London’s movie festivals. The festivals turn up each year on around the same date. They are extremely eclectic, meaning there’s a great festival for each of us. There are in excess of 60 motion picture festivals in London & these represent most of the city’s particular multicultural mixes. Such festivals range from conspiracies to anime, crime thrillers to Africa and of course that catalogue simply continues to swell.

Up there with the finest considerations about the capital’s film scene, are the actual cinemas themselves. Besides the rotten hell holes exist marvellous film houses that are sure to help you to rejoice in the flick. London holds well over 5 hundred film houses, and these range from top film houses, for instance, Vue & the Odeon, which perform the most current movies & also blockbusters, to the small film houses which feel more intimate and they also put on old and often arty movies, often movies which could not be performed in the more commercial movie houses.

There are also big screens currently that will provide a different adventure from the traditional film houses. You will savour in the flick from the snugness of your couch or an armchair; you might also get food from stewards. There there are a smattering of of these establishments dotted about. London’s Roxy Bar & Screen is a pleasing establishment situated around the fashionable Borough Market. The establishment is considered to be a combination of independent films, a charming bar area and an eatery. The Electric Cinema which is placed around the Notting Hill locale has shown movies for a long time and now, screens a combination of art movies in addition to the greatest of the main-stream. Amid the relaxing leather seating, its foot stools and of course the bar situated at the rear, you’re bound to revel in seeing any film. London’s Rex Cinema can be found in the Soho area in the city and is advertised as one of the foremost film houses to see. With the cinema’s cosiness and it’s cocktails to revel in, this picture house is thought to be a location everyone must investigate.

It’s constantly bound to be laborious, thinking about which film to see at the cinema, even so, the ambiance of a beautiful backdrop always enhances everybody’s gratification. Search film reviews at film with Time Out.

Increasing Efficiency with Breakout Area Tools

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

It’s funny how meeting rooms are some of the last rooms you’ll find technology in the office. Sure, you’ll find the latest technology in the offices themselves. And, yes, every higher lever employee in the company will have a Blackberry, a pretty, quick little laptop computer, and an office with satellite tv.

Another standard in audio visual systems for conference rooms is a digital projector. For those that frequently use PowerPoint presentations as a meeting tool, a projector is a complete necessity. A digital projector will exhibit any computer application on a white board or screen (or even a light-colored wall), helping you to reveal information, presentations, even digital films or satellite tv. While digital projectors used to be prohibitively expensive, especially for smaller businesses, their price is falling as technology advances, making them an easily obtainable addition to the meeting audio visual system of any corporation.

In the end, knowing what kind of meeting room technology you need for your business is just a matter of surveying your needs. Do you generally hold important meetings with associates across the world? Do you find that most of the notes taken at meetings are unfinished or incoherent, or you don’t have anyone to take them? Then some of the products discussed here may be for you. It’s just as easy to have too much technology in the boardroom as it is to have too little, so make sure not to spend more than you need. The technology you purchase should make meetings run more smoothly, not slow them down while employees spend all their time figuring out how to use these new technologies.

World War II Art

Monday, December 24th, 2007

One of the World War II art works that has the most lasting influence is the image of Rosy the Riveter. This was part of a series of works to inspire women to join the workforce to help make weapons. Of all of the World War II art that was made, this image is one of the only ones which has really stuck around for the long run, inspiring feminists to organize. If only more World War II art had such noble effects!

If you’re looking for pictures of art and culture in World War 2, you probably need to begin your search on the Internet. These pieces are becoming more and more rare as time passes. The art of the “Greatest Generation” continues to inspire people today; World War II art will always show your patriotism.

Collecting Movies Posters Both A Hobby And An Investment

Saturday, August 4th, 2007
Collecting movie posters of popular Hollywood films and movie stars is very popular. Collecting movie memorabilia has become a fun hobby for many movie fans, but it is also a way of owning your own piece of movie history. Collecting movie posters has also become an investment to some. More and more movie fans are now also considering this aspect when buying a poster. Movie posters are now prized as combinations of fine art and popular culture. Star Wars and Star Trek movie posters are one example of very popular posters of both hobbyists and collectors. Horror movie posters are a frequently collected item among horror buffs. Fans and collectors both purchase western movie posters because of their beautiful background scenes and the action packed photography. Some of the most popular movie posters at the moment are Star Wars movie posters. And now Spider-Man 3 movie posters are now available for hobbyists and collectors to purchase. Vintage movie posters have been a fan and collectors favorite because they offer an excellent opportunity to have your favorite movie or movie star in your home.

Get Your Own Grindhouse Experience

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

How disappointing that Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s new flick will not be seen in the format it was intended.

It seems American audiences just didn’t “get it” and now the films are being released separately.

This may be no bad thing as the films can stand up on their own merits. But what if we want that authentic gridnhouse experience.

The kind of sleazy and trashy pop culture experience that just doesn’t seem to get made these days. Well, it is possible – check out my selection of grindhouse movies

High Fashion – Are You the Next Top Model?

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

I have spent many years as a professional model photographer. It still amazes me that many teens who want to work in the entertainment industry do not know what it takes to find a career with a hign end major agency so hopefully some will be more informed by reading this.

It’s nice to have dreams but fashion model agencies want more than dreams. They want a specific look and don’t mind shattering your modeling goals with two words…

“Not interested”

Examine yourself carefully and see if you have the attributes to become a top fashion model.

Tole Painting

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Tole painting was first practiced in the United States in the 1700′s, principally in the New England states and in Pennsylvania by German and Scandinavian immigrants. Tole painting evolved from a similar craft practiced throughout Scandinavia and parts of Germany in the same time period, known as rosemaling. Interestingly, immigrants from Germany favored tin and metal as their tole painting medium, while Scandinavians more often chose wood and furniture items.

Portrait Artists

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

It would have been good to be a portrait artist back then – it was an extremely honorable field. As a matter of fact, most rich kings, barons, and lords would employ at least one oil painting artist in a court for royal functions. It was a sweet life if you could please your patron, and that wasn’t a hard thing for a talented artist to do. You see, although even a king was mortal, a painting was seen as immortal. Paintings of kings from hundreds of years ago, after all, still line the walls of museums all over the world.

Best Seller Books Tips

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

Nice article about best seller books!

I make a point of reading best seller books as often as I can. I have found that you need to be careful in buying books to make sure that you get the full version that the author wrote. I did not realize this until recently. I had finished a book by an author that is often on the best seller list. At the back of the book was the first chapter of his newest book that was to be on the market in a few …

Great Falls Montana

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Tourists also came because of the reputation of the Western artist, Charles Russell, who kept a studio in the city. There is a museum that is dedicated to his work. The nearby Jake Hoover’s Cabin is a re-constructed log cabin that belonged to the trapper Hoover. This typical cabin has a link to Russell because Hoover was a friend and mentor to him and he showed him how to survive in the wilds around Great Falls Montana.

Craft Shows

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Although there are some musical instrument makers and other highly specialized folks at craft shows, the majority of people there sell simple little trinkets. I have seen people who make all of their work out of cut up scraps of tin, people who print out shirts with cute smiley face people on them, and folks who make nothing but incense holders shaped like whimsical wizards. All of them do exceptionally well at the craft shows.

Travel To Egypt

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

According to the lonely planet travel to Egypt show, archeology was one of the main reasons cited by as tourists for their travels. Almost everyone who traveled to Egypt was interested in seeing the tombs of the pharaohs, the pyramids, and most of all the Sphinx. Although there are other reasons to travel to Egypt, most people aren’t aware of them.

Vintage Posters

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

As a culture, we are so bored by advertisements that it is difficult to see any beauty in them. In reality, a great deal of work goes into them. They are made to be beautiful. They are made to catch the eye. We miss all of it because we get sick of people always trying to sell us things. I think this is why so many people are fascinated by vintage posters. Through antique posters, we are able to see the beauty in contemporary American commercial life.

Amazing Designs

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

There are many examples of good design all around us and we take most of it for granted. I admire the design of buildings and products, past and modern. A poll was recently held in the UK for the public’s favorite amazing designs from the 20th century. There was a wide range of designs that got into the top twenty. There was the London Underground Map, the original cover design for Penguin Paperbacks, the Mini car and the Mini skirt! The album cover for the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band was also in.

Art projects

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Art is an important means of expression. Some people say that this need is what separates us from the animals. Most people do art projects from elementary school, learning about shape, texture and color. Parents proudly put their efforts on the wall or go into school to see their achievements. These paintings etc. help to develop the imagination and build confidence. It’s a great way for kids to learn about the world around them.

Art Posters

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

Fine art portraits are very popular, as in Jan Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, especially in vogue since the release of the film of the same name. Pre-Raphaelite paintings are also available as art posters, such as the Lady of Shallot by Waterhouse. For more modern tastes, there is Gustav Klimt and Roy Lichtenstein. Religious pictures form some of the most popular images. Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam and The Last Judgment are very powerful. Raphael is also for sale, with various depictions of the Madonna.  Admirers of Still Life can buy art posters in differing styles, from Paul Cézanne to Pablo Picasso.

Fine art posters

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

I have to admit that I’m not very big on interior design or home decorating. I mean, I don’t have the most expensive furniture, my fabrics and colors aren’t coordinated, and I don’t make the best use of space. I think it’s safe to say you won’t be seeing any pictures of my place in a “Better Homes & Garden” photo shoot anytime soon! Nevertheless, I believe that I do one thing well: my walls. To me, there’s nothing more depressing than a home with bare walls, so I go out of my way to make sure that mine are covered with interesting things to look at. Some of my favorite wall hangings are the framed fine art posters that I’ve purchased over the years.

Chico California – City Of Roses, City Of Trees

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

Art is actively encouraged here and there are many galleries, wall murals and public space sculptures. There are theatres too and Shakespeare in the Park performances. The Senator Theatre is a 1,500 seat venue for music and it’s a very attractive building, originating from 1927 when it began as a vaudeville theatre. Chico California has several museums, including the Chico Museum, which has permanent and traveling exhibits about the local history of the county. There are displays of photographs and artifacts, including items from the Chinese Tao Temple, a result of the city’s large Chinese population at the beginning of the 20th century. Science too is represented here with the Chico Community Observatory, a planetarium that puts on shows with real time images from their telescopes.

Blockbuster Movie

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

When was the last time you went to see a movie?  The blockbuster movie is what keeps the major studios going. Big budget entertainment for the masses is their lifeblood. The multi screen cinema complexes also need them. It’s what keeps the popcorn popping.

Big budget means high risk and a blockbuster movie box office failure could even bring a studio to it’s knees. Failures are pretty rare though, as studios and directors have a good grasp of what the audiences want. The consensus is that if $200 million worth of tickets are sold in the US, then you can define a film as a blockbuster movie.

Textile Arts – Quilting With Applique Quilt Patterns

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

The particular style of applique quilts arose as a new dimension in quilting in the 1840′s, the brainchild of American women looking for a clever and imaginative way to expand their art. The usual fabrics used were cotton, cambric or fine linen, similar enough in weave to piece together tightly and smoothly. In the early days, green and red motifs, appliqued on a white or light colored background were very popular, perhaps because of the high color contrast. Soon, embroidery was added to the applique motifs as an even higher form of the art.

History Of Art

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Early art concerned itself with immediate surroundings; paintings of hunting parties and everyday life. Later, religious paintings dominated, with depictions of the great Bible stories and the crucifixion of Christ. The great Renaissance artists, such as da Vinci, Michelangelo and Bernini were commissioned by the religious leaders of the day and we are left with a glorious legacy of their work.

Art History

Friday, February 16th, 2007

The most important period of history for us is the one in which we live, the present; it is also the most difficult to know. Superficially we know it well through our daily work, our conversations, our moving about and looking around. But we can know only a very small part of the life of our time through personal experience. We are too close to the small detail of everyday, and too busy with particular problems, to gain a general view of our time. The artists of the present are busy drawing the portrait of our time through which our descendants will know us. Art, then, is a kind of looking-glass in which we may find ourselves.

Lighthouse Pictures

Monday, January 29th, 2007

I actually stopped buying lighthouse pictures the day that I went out to the ocean. One of my friend was going to the beach, and she thought that she could do me some good by getting me out of the house for a few hours. She lured me out there with the promise of a lighthouse, but when I looked at it it was old and decrepit. Although there were lighthouse pictures in the gift shop, they showed the lighthouse at an earlier age.

Ansel Adams – The Beauty Of The Wilderness

Emily James – Art Of Seascapes And Landscapes

Friday, January 26th, 2007

The paintings are noted for their sense of reality, done with soft color and the Emily James style. The landscapes include the Florida Everglades, Venetian canals, French vineyards and the rolling hills of Tuscany. She is fond of flaura and fauna and has captured the delicacy of orchids and water lilies in a pond. Different weather conditions are evoked in red sunsets, misty dawns and Mediterranean sunshine. Emily James often paints coastal scenes of boats tied up in a harbor, lighthouses and the ocean lapping onto the beach.
