Christmas brings out the best and the worst in us, as can be seen in this evocative anthology. Among what Thomas Love Peacock calls the ‘many poetical charms in the heraldings of Christmas’ there are eulogies by saints and diatribes from curmudgeons. Here, Christmas is expounded by divines, sung by rustics, deplored by philosophers, made mystical in stories and summed up in a line by the poet Elizabeth Jennings: ‘The hush, the star, the baby, people being kind again’.

A wondrous journey through the realms of magic.
They call him Lump. Ugly, misshapen – more goblin than human child – abandoned as an infant and taken in by a witch, he is nursed by a bear, tutored by a djinn; his only playmates are the creatures of the forest, whose language he learns to speak.

Did you also think it would be nice to understand a movie in the Original, rather than having to view it in a synchrinised or sub-titled version? Well, that means learning the foreign language. Up to now this was a tedious thing and unless you REALLY wanted to learn the foreign language or had a strong compelling reason to do so, the project was abandoned sooner or later.
Why not try the Pimsleur language audios? These foreign language audios work on the principles of repetition. You learn the language by listening to the short 30 minutes lessons. Your brain picks the language up the same way you used to learn your first language when you were a small kid. Why not learn spanish with pimsleur audios?

A Music audio without music
– This is the history of music, and it makes for much easier listening than what I had thought when I bought it (Plenty more music related audios available at the store):
In clear and entertaining prose, Fred Plotkin (Fred has written for the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Opera News, and other publications.) explores a thousand years of music, introduces listeners to more than one hundred great works, and profiles in depth many significant composers, including Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Berlioz, Tchaikovsky, Dvok, and Mahler. He describes all the musical instruments in the orchestra, defines major musical terms, and makes music theory comprehensible for the uninitiated. There are also conversations with important musicians who offer fascinating insights about their art.
Classical Music 101 is a highly accessible guide to discovering the glories of classical music. The only regret I have is, that the audio ha not a single musical selection included.

If you’re eager to get free mp3 downloads of your favorite artist, try visiting the official website. Many artists will release tracks from past or present albums in order to generate interest and, of course, increase sales. Fully supported by the artists and their labels, these tracks are usually of high quality, and may feature deep cuts that wouldn’t get much airplay. Record label websites also sometimes offer free tracks of up and coming artists, or known artists that could use a boost in sales.

The Nintendo Wii is known for its new remote controlled technology, but if you want to feel at home with the old school controller, they also offer the “Classic Controller.”
Since it’s the “classic” controller, it’s ideal for the good old Nintendo games of yesterday. It’s meant to be used for the games where you don’t use the innovative Wiimote, the Nunchuck, or any of the other fancy stuff, but you can use it with any game. This is the controller to use if you want to keep it simple.
The design is similar to the Super Nintendo game pad. It’s oval, and the buttons are shaped like a diamond. The buttons on the front are the good old X, Y, A and B buttons, and there are also four buttons on the top edge of the controller. It has a D-Pad and a start and select button.

Placement Of The Powered Subwoofer
Optimal quality of sound is produced usually when placed near a few feet from a corner, however you will want to experiment with the acoustics of the environment you’re placing it in somewhat before deciding on the permanent location. Investing in a solid monster subwoofer cable and even a separate power center are very good ideas to make sure you get the best performance possible. There are outdoor models as well, and they work well in….

James Patterson is the award-winning American author who writes thrillers that really don’t let you put down the earphones till the end! His audio books, narrated by Carolyn McCormick, Peter J. Fernandez and Dennis O’Hare, Campbell Scott and Hope Davis, Cary Elwes, Robert Guillaume and Chris Noth, Hope Davis and Stephen Lang, Billy Campbell, Evan Rachel Wood, Becky Ann Baker and Blair Brown are lively, well told stories where the plot comes to live – sometimes a bit too much…
James Patterson’s last 16 novels have not only been No. 1 best sellers, but have also grossed more than $1 billion in sales. He has published many of his books as downloadable audio books.
I love his thrillers and enjoy listening to them when on the road. Loaded on an iPod or MP3 player it’s very convenient to carry along and ot have a good story teller with me whenever I like.

Until you could download audio books, it was never possible and highly dangerous to read while driving. For some commuters, this is considered a serious waste of good time. People who travel to work have been known to choose public transport for the simple fact that they can use the time to read or study instead of being stuck in traffic. With audio books, you can get your reading done while driving. Whether you have an MP3 compatible car stereo or need to copy the files to CD or tape, you can listen to books in the car. Imagine using the ten or more hours a week you are driving to refresh and expand your knowledge?
Students are finding they can use their audio books anytime to study or access information. Any student would prefer to carry a small and almost weightless MP3 player rather than heavy hard copies of literature.

I recently listened to 16 hours of captivating audio on my MP3 player. Hey, this is great! Rather than reading Ken Follett’s book I simply
downloaded this audio book thriller and the loaded the MP3 player. No more boredom when stuck in traffic. The commute all of a sudden became something I looked forward to!
This is the plot in a few sentences: In 1866 tragedy strikes at the exclusive Windfield School when a mysterious accident takes the life of a student. Among the student’s circle of friends are Hugh Pilaster; Hugh’s older cousin Edward, dissolute heir to the Pilaster banking fortune; and Micky Miranda, the handsome son of a brutal South American oligarchy. The death and its aftermath begin the spiraling circle of treachery that will span three decades and entwine many lives. From the exclusive men’s clubs that cater to every dark desire of England’s upper classes to the luxurious ballrooms of the manipulators of the world’s wealth, Follett conjures up a stunning panorama of intrigue.
“A Dangerous Fortune” sweeeps the characters toward a perilous climax where greed, fed by the shocking truth of a young man’s death, must be stopped – or the dreams of a nation will die.

When in school, learning Spanish was the class I liked least…. Vocabulary and pronounciation just did not like me and I certainly did not like them!
Recently a friend pointed me to the download site for the Pimsleur Spanish I Part 1 audio. He had started to learn Spanish with it and told me it was so easy, he could not believe it: Plugging in the earphones about an hour a day and listening to this foreign language audio lesson, made his brain absorbe the stuff automatically. He says he starts to think ahead and sometimes talk (!) ahead of the audio, whilst listening on his commute to and from work.
So I gave it a try too, and yep! this is the way to go!!! I’ve now started to download the next lessons – Pimsleur Spanish Course – and am ‘training’ my brain to understand Spanish. It is truly fun, realizing that the Hispanic TV channels now all of sudden start to make sense – I actually enjoy learning Spanish now.

Just discovered this gem of an radio show audio book, makes for very entertaining listening:
Ed Bishop stars as Philip Marlow in this powerful and atmospheric dramatisation. They never came tougher than Marlowe, a cynical, world-weary, wise-cracking shamus whose honesty in a dishonest world sent him down the mean streets again and again in search of some kind of justice.
There are two distinct stories on the audio: The Big Sleep and The High Window.
The Big Sleep: General Sternwood’s daughters came in both the colours of trouble – blonde and brunette -and they had all the usual vices. With four million dollars behind them, blackmail was only a matter of time. And blackmail can be murder.
The High Window: Linda Conquest was very tough, very kissable and very missing, along with one very valuable old coin. But for some reason the interested parties didn’t seem too interested in finding either of them. Especially when the trail led to the underworld and beyond. And by then Marlowe was knee deep in dead men…
Both are great fun!

With the growing popularity of MP3 players, in car CD players have become more affordable than ever. Even though they’re still more than adequate for listening to music, car audio cd players are hardly cutting-edge technology anymore, so this means you can get them for a fraction of what they cost just a few years ago.

Reading a book is a great way to relax, but often you can’t do that. Try reading a book while driving your car to work…. the police does not like that, nor the drivers around you!
There is a great solution: The Spoken Word (Audio Books).
Audio books that can be loaded on your iPod or MP3 player are easy to take along and to listen to anyhwere you like. Best selling authors that have made the New York Times bestseller list have published some of their books as audio books. The books written by so diverse authors like Mark Twain, Lewis Caroll, Alexandre Dumas, Friedrich Nietzsche, William Shakespeare, Hans Christian Andersen, Jules Verne, Oscar Wilde, George Bernard Shaw, Edgar Allen Poe, Homer, Sophocles, Dante or Charles Dickens can all fit easily on one MP3 player!
BBC Comedy and Radio shows from many UK and USA radio stations are available as audio books too, some are offered as free downloads.

During the 1960’s and 1970’s, album covers tended toward conceptual protests of previous ideas of good cover design. Abstract psychedelic patterns were popularly tied in to this new concept. The “hippie” times were a period of mind expansion and discovery, characterized by demands for social and political reform. This was expressed through the medium of the album cover, with photographs of war contrasting with portrayals of aristocratic wealth. On a lighter note, “flower children”, nature, and Eastern religion were combined with psychedelic mind-blowing color-infused patterns.
