DC Comics Is Making Big Changes

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Last week DC Comics, now known as DC Entertainment, announced that the 70 year-old company is overhauling their comic book line in an attempt to make comics more accessible to new readers. In the wake of this announcement, DC has released new information regarding these changes including changes to existing characters like the infamous women of DC comics, as well as starting the issue numbers of their comics back to issue #1.

This last move may sound strange, but for those who have not walked into a comic book store recently it can be a little daunting to want to read a Batman comic with an issue number of 678. I mean, what has been going on for 677 issues?

DC will also be offering at least 52 of their titles in digital format as well as the traditional comic book format meaning that those people who don’t have access to a comic book store can finally get in on the action.

There is already a lot of buzz, both positive and negative around these announced changes. Will it be enough for DC to wrestle its way to the top? The last time they beat out Marvel comics was 2002.

Business Success of Hank Freid Hotel in New York

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

After designing on the successes of his first two projects, Freid showed astonishing insight when, in 1990, he obtained the Ameritania Hotel on 54th Street and Broadway, next to the Ed Sullivan Theater, where the Late Show with David Let terman is filmed. “At the time, people were afraid to walk on 54th and Broadway,” he recalls. “I firmed to take a possibility because I was young and had nothing to misplace.” The risk quickly paid off. After some maintenance, Freid began incriminating guests $99 per night to reside at the hotel. In the limit of three years, CBS bought the Ed Sullivan Theater, and the district buzzed with action.

The Goon Show – Not Quite Establishment

Friday, April 6th, 2007

The Goon Show was sometimes cited as very entertaining without having to resort to sexual innuendo like a lot of modern comedy… but it’s all in the mind of the listener:

Reputedly due to his dislike of rules imposed by the establishment, Milligan spent a lot of time working allusions to rude and/or sexual barrack room jokes into his scripts. These were instantly recognised by his peers and went completely over the heads of the BBC and other innocent listeners. …..read more at The Goon Show – Not Quite Establishment

Climate Change: Soon New Names For Months: Octember and Janril

Saturday, February 24th, 2007

The year is 2099. And in a post apocalyptic England, things will never be the same again. Cattle-clasm has wiped out the majority of our livestock, the year has been restructured to include new months such as Octember and Janril, and there’s even a new season: Hamble, which falls between Spring and Summer and is generally drizzly.

Meanwhile, Professor Nebulous – a brilliant, if eccentric eco-conscious scientist – is determined to get Mother Earth back on the right track.

….. OK, this is just a humor audio book I found by exploring the listing of audio book authors. This is really fun, I chose ‘Graham Duff’ (never heared about this author before) and got catapulted into the year 2099… Nebulous‘ is a humor audiobook that tries to laugh about something serious. It’s very clever and is sure to get you thinking, either immediately or then after you had a good laugh……….
