Percussion instruments have been around for thousands of years. They began as a method of communication, a part of important tribal ceremonies before becoming a very common expression of musical taste. The word percussion comes from a Latin word, that when translated means to strike. Of course, not all percussion instruments are hit to make their music.

Whenever a beginner asks me how to play bass guitar I want to know his very own reason why he wants to learn playing bass.
The reason why is essential because it is the initial reason that predicts if someone will will quit soon, stay mediocre or become good.
I already mentioned it in a former post:
To my opinion you will only become a good bass player when you have an deep desire to play, to express yourself, to follow your passion.

Nice info about musician referral!
There are many places to find a musician referral, and I know there are many online. The problem is finding someone who lives nearby, and someone who has talent and the will to give up time for the good of the project. There are many great players out there, but styles and personalities do not always mesh. That is the hard part of a musician referral. Some like to…

The best feature of the Jamorama Package is the
26 bundled “jam tracks” with allows the user to play some songswith live bass, drums and keyboard backing (a lot of other guitar-teaching software use computer-generated backing tracks which just don’t cut it). Ben believes that the best way to learn for a beginner is to start jamming along with other instruments as soon as possible, and I wholeheartly agree. I consider myself an intermediate-level player. But still there were still a lot of cool new tricks I learnt from this package.

Hints on Buying Your Second Hand Guitar and Questions to Ask the Seller
The model and make of the guitar – It is best if you can research the guitar model you are interested in to find out the asking price elsewhere, both the new and used price. Also in your research, find out if other people have experienced any problems with it. You can find reviews for almost any guitar submitted at www.harmony-central.com/Guitar or you can check it out at your local
music store.
Check the condition of the guitar – Ask the seller about any damage that would be undetectable upon rough inspection. An honest seller may tell you.
How old is the guitar, how long have they had it? – If they have owned it for a long time, they should know the history of its use, repairs and maintenance etc. If they are not forthcoming with that sort of information, they may be trying to pull one over you.
Check for the following when inspecting the guitar:
The guitars overall condition – Examine the guitar and make note of any obvious damage. – Guitars often take a bit of wear and tear and if its just small scrapes and scratches then the guitar should probably be OK. Check for rust also, not just on the strings, but also examine the hardware that is holding the strings and the pickups. If you find rust in any of these places… run! It’s not worth it. A guitar that may fall apart on you in the near future isn’t much good, is it? Trust me – leave it alone.

Although there are some musical instrument makers and other highly specialized folks at craft shows, the majority of people there sell simple little trinkets. I have seen people who make all of their work out of cut up scraps of tin, people who print out shirts with cute smiley face people on them, and folks who make nothing but incense holders shaped like whimsical wizards. All of them do exceptionally well at the craft shows.

The process of guitar tuning is relatively simple. Novice guitar players may benefit from a few tools that make the process even easier, and more accurate. There are a variety of guitar tuners available. Some play a note in perfect pitch, allowing you to hear how your notes should sound. These are often very basic, and quite inexpensive. Some more sophisticated models can also detect a note as you play it, and indicate how far off-key (and in which direction) the string is. There are even online tools that help you tune your guitar properly by playing a note in perfect pitch, and are very often completely free.

After years of teaching and speaking with other guitar players it still amazes me how many players fail to warm up properly. I understand the desire to pick up the guitar and start playing but a few simple warm up steps will improve your playing and practice and help reduce injury. The internet can also help improve one’s skill with the guitar. There are many websites available that give tips from a beginner’s stage to the more advanced lessons.
Instructional videos are also available. Some were produced by rock stars and each of these individuals have or use a different technique.
The best technique that can be used to check your progress is by playing the guitar at the same time as the same song is playing in the background. That way, if you are playing “off key”, adjustments can be made until it is perfected.
