Timelord Rock - A New Genre of Music?

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

A Doctor Who fan named Alex Day has invented a new genre of music… Timelord Rock, or “Trock” for short.

Alex tells the story of how he invented a new type of music just for fans of the TV show Doctor Who, as well as demos the first “Trock song”.

Oh, and apparently his band’s name is Chameleon Circuit, which is a great name (and Doctor Who reference).

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Everybody knows about the iTunes Store these days, and how it’s possible to legally download music, movies, and TV shows from Apple’s online store. But for American fans of the classic BBC show Doctor Who, it’s felt kind of like being left out in the cold since their favorite TV show was never available through iTunes. But now this has all changed with Apple offering Doctor Who on iTunes.

Fans of the series can now get both entire seasons of the new revived Doctor Who series, as well as a selection of the more than 600 episodes that make up the classic series of Doctor Who, which ran for 26 seasons in the UK. The selection of the classic series is still limited, but no doubt in time more and more Doctor Who stories will be available to download to help fill the fans’ need for Who.

If You Want To Be An American Idol Winner - Read This!

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

My suggestion to you is to watch the ballad songs. Granted, ballads when sung right are very beautiful to hear and can be extremely popular with the audience, but the ballads very slow tempo also makes it much more likely to be forgotten by that same audience the minute you walk off stage. How many times have you seen an audience come out of their seats with thunderous applause after listening to a ballad? To become an American Idol winner, you will need songs that will get the audience moving. In that way you will make a connection with them. An audience that is moving with your song is much more likely to connect with you and remember you, as will the American Idol judges. And, that might be enough to make you an American Idol winner.

Tips For Contestants Of American Idol Auditions

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

Personally, there is no way I would have gone out for American Idol auditions myself if not for the fact that I have had a lot of experience going to music auditions before, as well as a few gigs. I am not exaggerating when I say, an American Idol audition is probably one of the most stressful auditions or tryouts that you could possibly have. Imagine having to audition on a nationally televised program in front of some very tough American Idol judges. Look, just a normal audition is tough enough, but this kind of tryout is unbelievably nerve wracking to say the least.

Will The New TV Shows Bring About Another Golden Age Of Comedy

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

As far as American situation comedy is concerned, the last ten years or so are now being referred to as the golden age in television comedy. Sitcoms like Will and Grace, Friends and Frasier all became international hits and their passing has left a big hole that won’t be filled anytime in the foreseeable future. Now with the sitcoms King of Queens and Everyone Loves Raymond also at an end, the search for good new TV shows in the situational comedy field are in crisis mode. All the above sitcoms are class acts to follow and every new sitcom that comes out will inevitably be compared to them. The television industry waits for the next golden age of comedy, frantically scanning sitcom scripts for that next big hit. As are we, the television viewing audience.

Satellite TV For PC Turns Your PC And Laptop Into A Television

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

I have been using Satellite TV for PC Elite 2008 Edition for months now and I wouldn’t use anyone else’s program. Many competitor’s Internet PC to TV offers come no where close to the same quality as this one. For a one-time fee of only $49.95 makes this a superb deal for getting PC Internet TV. I own a review site called Movies Music Games & More and I review a lot of different products. If you look at my reviews you will see my choices in each category are all from different companies, but my top three choices for Satellite TV to PC all come from the same company. Why? Because this is the only program that does it right. My computer is full of all the Satellite TV for PC programs I have tested and found to be totally worthless.

M*A*S*H, which was is a very successful Hollywood movie about a comical medical mash (mobile army surgical hospital) unit during the Korean War inspired the making of a top TV show of the same name that ran from 1972 - 1983. The most popular character was the wisecracking surgeon, Captain Benjamin “Hawkeye” Pierce (Alan Alda), who cracks us up while patching up wounded soldiers, flirts with nurses and makes fun of head nurse Margaret “Hotlips” Houlihan and fellow doctor, Major Frank Burns. Which Cable Service Fits Your Needs?

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

With the choice of so many programming providers out there it can be difficult deciding on which is right for you and your family. Of course there are some basic factors that can alleviate this decision based on the type of viewing that is desired in your home.

In large cities such as Houston, Texas there are three major providers. These are Dish Network, Direct TV, and of course, Comcast. To be fair to all three there are distinct advantages to each.

For Comcast they tend to have less chance of signal loss during a major storm. However, when signal is lost due to a down or cut line, repair is longer to achieve. In addition pricing is somewhat higher than Direct or Dish. Quality of picture is also an issue, especially if the house is further on down the line as signal strength weakens. And of course, in February of 2009 all cable customers will need a box for each tv wanting service.

Direct TV like Dish has %100 digital programming unlike cable. Where Direct is possibly a better choice over the other two is in the area of NFL fans. Direct TV is the only provider to have the Sunday NFL Ticket where fans can watch all the games on Sunday. This service is usually an additional $300 or more in addition to the regular programming package fees. Also, unlike Dish, a receiver is needed for each tv.

Where Dish Network distinguishes themselves from Comcast and Direct TV is in their overall product. Dish has %100 digital programming, the NFL Network is in one of their lowest priced packages, each receiver is capable of operating two televisions instead of one, their regular pricing is lower than the rest, and signal loss is only on average two to five minutes in the rare occurrence signal is lost. In addition to the regular cd music available, Sirius Satellite music comes included with their mid to high level packaging at no extra cost. And, when it comes to High Definition programming (HDTV) Dish is the leader.

Thanks for stopping by “GreaterHoustonTV” and feel free to give us a call anytime should you have any questions.

Are They Picking The Very Best Contestants For The American Idol Tour?

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Although it may sound like I have a strong dislike for the American Idol tour. Truth be told, I don’t have anything against the American Idol tour or the television show that spawned it. As a matter of fact, I watched the first season, and parts of the next ones that came after. I honestly like Kelly Clarkson’s singing, and I was delighted to see that she was victorious. The thing that surprised me was all the pandemonium that ensued for the following American Idol tour. The entire top ten from the show toured. I wondered why everyone was so eager on seeing this American Idol tour in particular. I wonder if we will ever know.

Reality TV Shows Good For Ratings

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

I recollect when reality TV shows were first starting up on television. Although I can’t remember exactly which shows were the first to air, I do however recall one of the very first ones I watched and that was Real World on MTV. Many years on my dear friend informed me that Real World was not as genuine as they needed you to think so. A lot of what was on the show was in actual fact staged and many of the people that featured on the show were indeed actors.  I’m not sure if what she told me was true or not however to be perfectly honest with you, nothing would surprise me.

Cable TV Provider

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

have to look at and things that you have to consider today than ever before. It used to be that there was only, well, cable - that is the line that runs in to your house through a hole that they have to drill in your wall - you all know what I am talking about. You could get it in basic cable, expanded, or premium. The options varied, but it was always pretty straight forward, and besides, there was never more than one cable tv provider for any given area, so it was not really much of an issue. There was only one set of cable lines, so the city would let one company cover everyone, and that would be that. Now, I know that we all like to have our choices, but you have to admit that that kind of system makes everything pretty easy for us, and we all like to have things easy as well.

Your Television Schedule

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

Do you know the current television schedule by heart? If you do, you’re either a genius with a photographic memory, or you’ve got way too much spare time on your hands. Let’s hope it’s the first one. Now, what are your favorites and which are the ones you avoid? This is a tricky question in my house. My family all want to watch television at the same time. The good old prime time slots. From eight to eleven it’s a battle for the remote control in this house. With a man, a woman, a teenage girl and a seven year old girl, there’s not a lot of agreeing going on. This is when I simply take advantage of the Tivo option and record my shows. I watch them later after the rest have gone to bed. It’s just easier that way. I let the three girls battle it out amongst themselves. Doesn’t that sound wonderful?

The Goon Show - Not Quite Establishment

Friday, April 6th, 2007

The Goon Show was sometimes cited as very entertaining without having to resort to sexual innuendo like a lot of modern comedy… but it’s all in the mind of the listener:

Reputedly due to his dislike of rules imposed by the establishment, Milligan spent a lot of time working allusions to rude and/or sexual barrack room jokes into his scripts. These were instantly recognised by his peers and went completely over the heads of the BBC and other innocent listeners. …..read more at The Goon Show - Not Quite Establishment

Tv shows online

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

Most people who have been using the Internet for a while have already heard of different file-sharing venues and peer-to-peer (P2P) downloading sites where you can get virtually any MP3 or audio file that you want. The fact that these music downloads are available is pretty common knowledge. What is perhaps less commonly known, however, is the fact that you can also find a significant number of TV shows online as well. Downloading television programs is basically the same as downloading other kinds of files. You first need to find a website that contains links to TV shows online, and then you have to make sure that you have some kind of file-sharing client that will allow you to access the files (often called “torrents” after the name of one of the most popular clients out there).

Download TV Shows From The Internet

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

I have not had cable for months, so I love to download TV shows online. Downloading TV shows for free is one of my favorite occupations. It is so much better than watching them on TV used to be.

Now I can see any show I wanted anytime I want. The only problem is that it is often difficult to find the TV shows to download. Sometimes, all you can find is compressed video that is very lossy.

The Adventures Of Black Beauty-An Epic Tale

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

Black Beauty is the hero, a fine, good-natured stallion, who in the course of his life experiences situations and owners both good and bad. The two other main characters are Ginger, a chestnut mare who is teamed with Black Beauty as a cart horse, and their friend Merrylegs, a sweet pony with a good and kind owner.

The three tell their stories, with the ups and downs of life. Black Beauty sees many sides of life, from his birth on a horse farm with kind owners, eventually becoming a riding horse, a carriage horse for a wealthy owner and then a period as the overworked and ill-treated cart horse.

Although Anna Sewell did not intend “Black Beauty” to be a children’s story, this classic book has sold over 30 million copies, with three movies eventually made, based on the only book written by this crippled woman with a passion for the plight of the 19th century horse…..read more at The Adventures Of Black Beauty

One of the Classic Cartoons of Our Time - Spider-Man

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

The first animated cartoon was named Spider-Man, it was shown on the ABC network from 1967 to 1970. When the animation company that made the show went belly-up, animator Ralph Bakshi took over. Anyone who recalls this series is sure to remember the poor quality of the animation, due in part to a very humble budget. The voice of Spider-Man was done by a man named Paul Soles. In the early 1970’s, Spider-Man made some guest appearances on the popular children’s show The Electric Company. Rather than speaking, Spider-Man used thought bubbles…
